Student Support Advisor
I am sure that many of you are or will get used to seeing me at parents' evenings during the years to come and you never need an appointment to come and talk to me at these events. My background is in education. I was a teacher for 25 years before moving onto full time support work with students at two different colleges of further education. I then worked for Connexions before taking up the post here in January 2007.
My main role at the college involves me supporting both parents and young people. As a parent myself, I have experienced first-hand the difficulties of bringing up children. Nobody knows a child better than the person who cares for them and the focus of my role is to work in partnership, in a non-judgemental way, with parents/carers and offer extra support for them. This support is carried out principally at home with parents/carers and at college with the young person usually on a one to one basis. Those young people that I support are generally not achieving their full potential in college so with some guidance and assistance from myself, I hope to raise their achievement levels to enable them to have full access to all educational opportunities and help them to overcome their barriers to learning and participation.
I can also act as signpost to organisations and professional bodies where parents who do not need the close support that I have described above, can access further assistance and information.
As you can see I have a wide range of experience in working with parents/carers and young people so if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to get in touch with me as I am here to support you in whatever way I can.
You can contact me at the college on 01933 313411 Ext 315, or by asking for me at Reception if you are in the college.
