Special Educational Needs
The Ferrers Specialist Arts College has a supportive team which provides assistance for students with Special Educational Needs. The Special Needs area is housed in a new, specially designed site which students enjoy using. The college site is on one level and is open and accessible to all students and their parents/carers.
Students with Special Educational Needs are quickly identified and extra support is made available. Individual programmes of work to meet a variety of needs may be developed for students and may be delivered in a 1:1 or small group situation. Support may also range from helping students to organise themselves, to encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning. Many of the students receive additional support alongside their peers in curriculum areas. Support staff work closely with teaching staff to ensure student progress is maximised in all learning environments.
The College is now able to access additional support from the newly formed Education Entitlement Service. Currently the College works very closely with the Hearing Impaired Team to ensure that those students with hearing difficulties are able to access the curriculum alongside their peers.
The Special Needs Team support students to ensure progress both academically and socially. We aim to ensure that all students at The Ferrers have access to the support and care needed throughout their education to enable them to achieve their full potential.
